LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – To help local businesses and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, State Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, is serving on bipartisan working groups focused on revitalizing the economy and supporting families.

“This pandemic has affected every single aspect of our lives, from how we educate our children to how we pay the bills to how we care for our aging parents,” Edly-Allen said. “These new challenges will require legislative action and policy adjustments to help families and small businesses in our new normal. I’m eager to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and hear firsthand from stakeholders to be a part of the solutions our communities need to move forward.”

Edly-Allen is serving on working groups for Economic Recovery, Elementary & Secondary Education, Healthcare & Human Services, Mental Health & Addiction, Housing & Homelessness Prevention, and Corrections & Justice. These working groups are focused on prioritizing legislation introduced this year but stalled due to the legislative hiatus and crafting legislative changes needed as a result of the pandemic.

The legislature has been working remotely since the beginning of the governor’s stay-at-home order.

“Although the legislature has not been meeting in Springfield, we are safely working remotely from our districts every single day to negotiate solutions that Illinoisans need during this time of crisis,” Edly-Allen added. “The pressure points on every level of government are unprecedented, and more than ever we must work together to support families and our communities.”
