Dear Governor J.B. Pritzker,
On behalf of the constituents of House District 51 and Senate District 26, we would like to discuss the boating restrictions instituted by IDNR. Boating makes up a large part of our Districts’ economy and recreational activities. One of the largest towns — Lake Zurich — is named after the large lake in the middle of the town. In consequence of Covid-19, restrictions were placed on recreational boating. However, the restriction of not allowing more than two people per boat is causing many boaters in my district to question the reasoning. Residents and leaders alike, including the Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton, have contacted our offices demanding representation on this issue.
We understand Covid-19 is to be taken seriously. However, we would like to propose that we allow boating activities with a few common-sense guidelines so that families can safely enjoy boating. Families who eat together and ride in a car together should be able to also enjoy boating together.
Additional measures that have been suggested by our constituents are:
● Maintain the 6 feet social distance rules at boat ramps
● Do not allow more than two vehicles at ramp launching per time/vehicles and must keep 6 to 8 feet in separation
● Restrict the use of public restrooms
● Prohibit multiple boats from connecting together
We hope that you would take these under consideration. We can flatten the curve and offer a recreational activity that helps Illinoisians and the local economy. We look forward to hearing back from you.
Rep. Mary Edly-Allen 51st District of Illinois
Senator Dan McConchie 26th District of Illinois
